About the Author

My name is Cui Lu Xing. But if you’re reading my book, you probably know me as Kudzu Leaf. I’m a nine-tail fox demon. I've been in the service of the royal family since I was just a little cub, so I've seen more than my fair share of palace intrigues and wild adventures.

At the time of the story, I was just a three-tail huli jing, only 23 years old. For those of you who don’t know, that’s practically a kid in demon years. When these events unfolded, I was right there for some of the action. And for the rest, I was lucky enough to hear the tale straight from those who lived it. You see, humans have a funny way of twisting tales, and the teahouse performers love to add their own flair to the truth. But us, demons, well, we have a better sense of what really happened.

Of course, there are still mysteries left unsolved, and I won't spoil anything for you. But let’s just say that I had the privilege of hearing the full story from someone who lived it, and I think that makes my version worth telling.

So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the tale as I saw it‐or as I was told by those who were there. You may ask me why I focused so much on the human side of things. That’s because it’s often tricky for demons like me to understand human actions and emotions. The human perspective will help you to connect to the story better.
